Class File is Locked or In-Use

 

 

This error is due to a setting in Novell Client Properties that is not set to allow long file names.  To correct the problem:

  1. Right-click on the red “N” on the bottom-right corner of your screen
  2. Select “Novell Client Properties” from the popup menu
  3. Click the “Advanced Settings” tab
  4. Highlight “Use Extended File Handles”
  5. Change the Setting drop-down to “Off”
  6. Click OK.
  7. You may need to make a copy of the file if you still get the error message, but this should prevent the error in future.

 

To make a copy of the file and rename it:

  1. Double-click on My Computer
  2. Double-click on the “G” drive
  3. Locate and double-click your teacher folder
  4. Locate the class file and right-click it
  5. Select “Copy” from the popup menu
  6. Right-click in the white space within your folder
  7. Select “Paste” from the popup menu
  8. Right-click the copy of the class file
  9. Select “Rename” from the popup menu
  10. Rename the file
  11. Open the new class file in eClass Grades
  12. Make your changes
  13. Save the class file and close it

 

Email Kathy Swafford the old file name so that it can be deleted from your folder.
